I could choose an historical period in which to be an artist,
I suppose I would have to say that I would feel most comfortable
among the figurative painters of the Fin de siecle... I
do feel part of an ongoing tradition of 'jobbing' portraitists.
It's simply that working to commission gives me the opportunities
to face the sort of artistic challenges I relish most."
